This piece began as an acoustic exploration of clay and sound. Sounds are produced in the making of clay objects, whether intentionally or not. There is a long history of ancient clay instruments, and while I was not intentionally trying to recreate any of them, I think it would be problematic to claim to have invented anything new here. For the performance, I wanted to direct and compose the piece with no verbal instruction, purely through play and gesture. By demonstrating each instrument before giving it away, I hoped to create a connection between myself and each person.
